Neige Sweatshirt

Neige Sweatshirt

The Neige Sweatshirt by Deer and Doe has a slouchy fit with pieced statement sleeves and comes in 2 views. Version A has side slits and a funnel neck, version B is cropped and finished with ribbing. Appropriately for this ever-changing weather, Neige literally translates as "snow" and it's super cosy when made up in medium weight knits. I chose to make my first version in my lilac sweatshirting fabric for a cosy jumper during lockdown number 2. My measurements put me above the sizing for the printed pattern version but given that Deer and Doe's largest waist size is 33", that wasn't a total surprise! Thankfully the PDF version goes larger! I cut a 44 at the top and graded to a 50 at the hips and lengthened by 5cm which is my usual increase in length for their patterns. I made mine with the view B neckline and the view A length and side slits as I'm not a huge fan of cropped sweaters (they finish at my widest point and I'm also left with a chilly back). I tend to wear scarves when it's cold so the funnel neck wouldn't work so well for that.

This first attempt was ok. I love the sleeve detail, and the fabric was perfect for it but despite checking the pattern against my body, the sleeves are a little short. Still, perfectly fine as a 'chuck it on over my workout clothes' kinda sweater and it's had plenty of use since I made it.

I recently had some Bubble Jacquard fabric delivered and thought it'd be perfect for another go. I was right! I lengthened the sleeves by 5cm and the body by another 3cm (totalling 8cm added) as well this time. It's a much better fit and although I could size down a little, I like the slouchy fit of it!

I just wish I'd followed the manufacturers instructions and not tumble dried the fabric as it's gone a little bobbly (my fault, the fabric said not to!). Time to make a third one perhaps? With those sleeves, maybe a colour blocked version...

My measurements: High bust 93, Full Bust 105, Waist 87, Hips 119cm. Height 178cm Size made: 44 at bust, grading to a 46 at the waist and 50 at the hips. Lengthened body by 8cm and sleeves by 5cm Would I make it again? Definitely! It's a perfect sweater for layering over t-shirts and skinny jeans or even for run/yoga wear.
